As many of you know, Marty (formerly argyleforlife) and I are great friends who met through tumblr. Every couple of months we try and plan a little get together for ourselves in NYC, just as a chance to buy some more clothes we don’t need, grab a bite to eat, and goof around all day. Anywho, a little while back, Richard of perfectlyaskew informed me that he and his buddy, Stephen (seppling), would be taking a road trip up to the east coast from good ol’ Waco, Texas. Finally another chance to meet up in the city and add to our tumblr crew — January 6, 2012; pics or it didn’t happen.
I hopped on the 8:47 train to get me into NY Penn by 9:39am. Richard and Stephen, the goons they are, missed their train from summit. Fortunately the trains run every hour, so they were able to get to Penn just a little bit after me, giving me enough time to grab a short stack at a local diner with Marty. An hour later, the Texans had arrived. Richard is probably the tallest person I have ever seen. He’s also probably the tallest person on tumblr. After meeting up with Rich and Stephen we set off to our first, unplanned, destination - the Ivy Style Exhibit at F.I.T. After taking a couple photos in front of the entrance, we stepped in to feast our eyes in tradly goodness. Inside, and to my surprise, I was recognized by Adam over at thecolonial. Good guy with great taste go check out his blog. After a little while of strolling through the exhibit, we went back out to 7th Ave. and continued our trek to the 99 University Rugby store as a last visit to our Mecca. As expected, the store was pretty bare. Richard, being a fellow Rugby employee,  struck up a good conversation with one of the guys who works in the store. From  99 University, we headed over to Bleecker Street, stopping in at Gant Rugger and the Bleecker Street Rugby. It was here that I scored, miraculously (thank you, RR!) my foxy velvet slippers. Last pair in the store. Very possibly the last pair in NYC. Size 8. I felt like Cinderella.
After Bleecker, it was time for Richard and Stephen to meet up with their buddy, the one and only Fred Castleberry. One of my favorite bloggers and inspirations, I was not expecting to run into him, let alone actually get to sit down and have lunch with him at Shake Shack (or if you’re Marty, you call it Shack Shake). After waiting for what seemed like an eternity to get a table at Shake Shack, we snagged one down stairs and enjoyed a delicious lunch as well as some quality Castleberry time. We talked about the end of Rugby, FEC’s position at RL, and just the typical menswear shenanigans. Afterwards, FEC snapped a couple pictures of us, which came out beautifully as you’ve all seen. After our little photoshoot, FEC departed to go visit the Ivy Style exhibit. Turns out that was the last day it was open, good thing we stopped by - total coincidence!
Richard and Stephen left Marty and I just a short while after FEC, in order to continue their road trip up to Boston, which they were lucky enough to stop by KJP’s factory a day later. Insanely jealous.
It was a solid day in the city. Needs to happen more often.
